The Parish Links held their annual Christmas party on Sunday, January 7 at the NICC. The event was a great success, with many people coming together to celebrate the end of the festive season. The committee would like to extend their gratitude to Eileen Condon and her staff for the delicious meal they provided. The Christmas cake, generously supplied by Mary O’Donnell of New Inn, was highly praised by all. Eddie Golden and his band provided wonderful entertainment, performing a variety of songs alongside Jimmy, Ashling, James, and Ciara Lee. Kate O’Dwyer, a dancer from “On Your Toes,” delighted the audience with her lyrical dance piece. The “Burgess School” Irish dancers from New Inn, including Leah and Sophie Lonergan, Grace, Ruth and Emily O’Dwyer, Emma O’Driscoll, and Saoirse McHugh, also put on a beautiful display. Esther Boland of New Inn was the lucky winner of the hamper that was on display in The Shop, New Inn. The committee would like to thank Ml Purcell and the other committee members for selling the lines of the hamper, which raised much-needed funds for the Parish Links. The committee also wishes to thank the local businesses, clubs, and individuals who donated spot prizes on the day. Their generosity greatly contributed to the success of the event. The hard-working committee deserves great credit for their dedication and effort in organizing this event year after year. The Hall committee also deserves a special mention for their support. The event was not only a great celebration but also an opportunity for parishioners to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. LAGGANSTOWN CHRISTMAS CRIB

The festive spirit was truly alive in Lagganstown, with the community coming together to celebrate the season and remember those who could not be with us. The night was filled with warmth, despite the cold weather, as everyone gathered to sing, pray, and express their gratitude for the blessings of the year. MC on the night was Cyril Fitzgerald.  Blessings were by Fr Mattie McGrath, while Paddy O’Connor (Bellevue) recited a beautiful poem.

Jimmy O’Farrell along with Eddie Golden sang some beautiful Christmas songs with 100-night lights flickering in the background, a beautiful symbol of remembrance for those who have passed away. The flickering lights, set against the backdrop of Christmas carols and the beautifully decorated crib, created a magical atmosphere that touched the hearts of all present.

The event also saw the community’s generosity in full display, with a significant donation of non-perishable items made to the Cuan Saor charity in Clonmel. Breeda Bell on behalf of Cuan Saor thanked everyone. This act of kindness is a testament to the spirit of giving that is so characteristic of the Christmas season.

The children, their eyes filled with awe and wonder, added to the magic of the evening. Their innocent joy and excitement were a reminder of the true meaning of Christmas – a time for love, joy, and togetherness.

The singer the late Shane McGowan was remembered on the night. The evening came to a close, with a reflection by Michael J Boland.

The Lagganstown town crib would like to thank everyone for making the 11th annual Christmas Blessing, another mighty success. Thanks for keeping this little tradition alive and well!

Thanks to outgoing officers Colm Heaney, Martina Durkan, Ken Collins and Tadhg Mohally as they step back but not away for all their dedication to the club since the establishment of the club in 2018. It has been a very exciting year for the club with the formation of our Junior Ladies team who reached a County Final in their first year. Also, to the u14’s in their County Final Division B success, a thrilling match to the final whistle. Our u19 ladies topped off the season with a magnificent County final win on November 19 over Rockvale Rovers. Well done to Colm Heaney, Kieran Durkan, Ciaran McGrath, Julie Hennessy and Mary Collins and to these amazing group of players and parents on this fantastic achievement. This being our first year entering the u19 competition, it’s a phenomenal recognition of the hard work being done in the club and this year in particular the girls are reaping the benefits of Padraig O Connor (S&C).
Wishing all our members a peaceful, healthy and happy Christmas and we are all looking forward to a prosperous fun-filled 2024.

PADDY MCGRATH MEMORIAL POOL COMPETITION

Congratulation to Lar Donnelly on his impressive victory at the Paddy McGrath memorial pool competition. After five weeks, Lar emerged as the winner form a field of 40 players. His final match against Paul Butler was a thrilling showdown. The presentation of the memorial cup was made by Paddy’s daughter Deirdre at Barron pub in New Inn on Saturday December 2. The cup is a fitting tribute to Paddy and as we approach the first anniversary of Paddy’s passing, this tournament serves a poignant reminder of his love for the game and his lasting impact on the local pool community. Well done to all the participants and organisers of the event.
