TRACTOR RUN FOR TOMMY ON NEW YEAR’S DAY

BEST WISHES TO DESSIE

We extend our heartfelt wishes to Inspector Dessie Bell as he embarks on the next phase of his life, filled with good health, happiness, and fulfilment. Recently, his 30 years of dedicated service to An Garda Síochána were celebrated and acknowledged at Thurles Garda Station, surrounded by his family, colleagues, and friends. Dessie is the son of the late Eileen Bell and Gerry Bell of Glenagat, New Inn. We are all incredibly proud of his remarkable achievements and contributions to the community!

FRIENDS OF TIPPERARY FOOTBALL HOSTS SUCCESSFUL DRAW NIGHT

A delightful evening was held at the Annacarthy Community Centre as the Friends of Tipperary Football hosted a successful draw night on Wednesday December 18 featuring a heifer and calf kindly sponsored by Con Quinn. The event, masterfully led by MC Anthony Shelley, welcomed guests and marked the occasion with a speech from Martin Dwyer, the newly elected chairman of the Friends of Tipperary Football. Martin expressed heartfelt gratitude to all attendees, as well as those who sold and purchased tickets to support the initiative. Sandra English, the Public Relations Officer, took a moment to reflect on the history of the Friends of Tipperary Football, praising the dedicated committee members for their relentless efforts. In a touching acknowledgement, she quoted, “Behind every great man is a great woman,” paying tribute to the unwavering support of Con Quinn’s wife, Trish. The evening featured an engaging discussion between Anthony and Philly Ryan, the newly appointed Senior Tipperary football manager. Ryan reminisced about the evolution of the sport since his playing days and shared his excitement about working with the fresh squad he has put together. The draw itself was an exciting affair, with Con Quinn spinning the draw drum while Brian Fox pulled the winning tickets. Special thanks were extended to C-Saw for providing the gazebo throughout the months and to St. Michael’s for the drum. In closing, Anthony expressed his gratitude to everyone involved and offered a strong endorsement of Con Quinn’s generosity. He emphasized the significant positive impact that the proceeds from the event would have on underage football in Tipperary. The results of the draw are as follows: Winner of the pure bred 4 star Angus Heifer & calf is Conor O’Dea, Co. Laois. LAGGANSTOWN CHRISTMAS CRIB

Lagganstown’s 12th Annual Christmas Blessing takes place this Sunday December 22 at 7pm. As a token of the Christmas spirit, you are invited to donate some non-perishable food (e.g. tea bags, beans, soup etc.) and these goods can be placed in Willy the Legend’s donkey cart next to the crib. This food will then be given to “Cuan Saor”, Women’s Refuge Centre, Clonmel. All are welcome and hope to see you on the night when we will be supporting our friends in “Cuan Saor “. Your continued support is very much appreciated to keep this tradition of ours alive.

The Parish Links are selling lines, and you have a chance to win a beautiful hamper which is on display at The Shop, New Inn. €2 a line and you can also purchase lines from any committee member. The Parish Links committee organises a Christmas party for the senior members of our community each year. The Christmas party will be held this year in New Inn Community Centre on Sunday January 5, 2025, starting at 12.30. The invitations will be in the post by late December. TIPPERARY G.A.A. YEARBOOK ON SALE THIS WEEK

It includes the achievements of Rockwell Rovers gaa club. One of the sections of the book that is read with interest and a little sadness is the “Friends we Lost” obituary notices of the many Gaels who passed away during 2024. As usual there are many, fine people, men, and women, who contributed significantly to the G.A.A. during their lifetimes. All this, over one hundred and fifty pages, for €15. It would make an ideal Christmas stocking filler for any Gaa enthusiast.

Tipperary GAA has officially launched a landmark fundraising campaign aimed at enhancing GAA facilities across the county. The campaign features an exciting grand prize: a fully furnished home located in Bregawn, Cashel, valued at €350,000. Alternatively, the winner has the option to receive a cash prize of €300,000. Tickets for this remarkable draw are priced at €100 and can be purchased through the Rockwell Rovers GAA club or via the official ‘Win a House’ website.  The Women’s Group and South Tipp Hospice would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported their recent coffee morning at Barrons Pub in New Inn. The event was a remarkable success, raising an impressive €850 for the hospice. Special thanks are extended to all who sponsored raffle prizes and volunteered their time to help on the day, as well as to Alicia for the beautiful flower arrangements. Congratulations to Mary O’Donnell of New Inn, the lucky winner of the hamper prize.  Additionally, a wonderful night was enjoyed by all at the Christmas party held recently at Bunratty Castle. The New Inn Women’s Group wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and would like to specifically thank Anthony Monaghan and the Cork Prison Officers Social and Charity Club for their generous donation of the fabulous hamper, which enabled us to raise much-needed funds for South Tipperary Hospice.

Rockwell Rovers hosted a well-attended Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, December 7, 2024, marking a significant occasion for the club. During the meeting, John Halley stepped down after five years of dedicated service as Chairman and was proposed for the esteemed position of Lifetime President in recognition of his contributions. The following officers were elected for the upcoming term: – Lifetime Presidents: Andy O’Dwyer, Philly Heaney, Andrew Moloney, and John Halley.  President: Jimmy Looby, Chairman: PJ Moloney, Secretary: Elaine Cummins, Treasurer: Mary Newman,  PRO: Elaine Cummins, Coaching Officer: Barry Shortall, Co Board Hurling Representative: John Hally, Co Board Football Representative: Kevin Barron, West Board Delegates: John Hally, PJ Moloney, and Jerry Ryan, Development Chairman: Adrian O’Dwyer, Health & Wellbeing Officer: Martina Durkan, School Liaison Officer: Kieran Durkan, Registrar: Cathy Fitzgerald. Niall Kelly was appointed to manage the Intermediate Football and Junior A Hurling teams. Positions that remain unfilled will be addressed at the Adjourned AGM, with the date to be confirmed. The meeting concluded with a special presentation to John Hally, honouring his service, presented by Club President Jimmy Looby and Incoming Chairman PJ Moloney.

TIPPERARY GAA HISTORIC FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

Tipperary GAA has officially launched a landmark fundraising campaign aimed at enhancing GAA facilities across the county. The campaign features an exciting grand prize: a fully furnished home located in Bregawn, Cashel, valued at €350,000. Alternatively, the winner has the option to receive a cash prize of €300,000. Tickets for this remarkable draw are priced at €100 and can be purchased through the Rockwell Rovers GAA club or via the official ‘Win a House’ website. Maeve Carroll from Garrandee, New Inn, has been honoured as the Cashel Lions Club Young Person of the Year. Earlier this year, Maeve was a prize winner at the Young Scientist Competition and currently serves as the Chairperson of the Student Council at Cashel Community School. Maeve is an active member of the Brú Ború traditional music group. As a result of her accomplishments, she will now represent the Cashel Lions Club in the National Final of the Lions Clubs Young Ambassador of the 21st Century. Tipperary entertainer and Tipp Mid-West Radio presenter, Louise Morrissey, has been awarded the prestigious Female Vocalist of the Year Award for 2024 at the Irish Entertainment Awards. The star-studded ceremony took place recently at the Great Northern Hotel in Bundoran, hosted by Keltic Country Radio and TV. Originally from Bansha and now residing near New Inn with her husband Johnny, Louise expressed her delight at receiving the award, highlighting it as a significant recognition of her talent and hard work. Louise Morrissey is known for her engaging show, “Lunch with Louise,” which airs on Fridays from noon to 2pm on Tipp Mid-West Radio.

NEW INN TIDY TOWNS: RESULTS ARE IN.

 

This week, the New Inn community is buzzing with excitement following the announcement of results from the SuperValu Tidy Towns competition. Our dedicated group has achieved an impressive increase of 8 points, marking a significant milestone for our small but committed team. Heartfelt congratulations are extended to everyone who contributed their time and efforts over the years. A special acknowledgment goes to Annerveigh Plants, New Inn for generously providing trees and plants that support local pollinators. We would also like to express our gratitude to Tipperary County Council, John O’Meara GSS, and John Bailey for their invaluable assistance in maintaining the tidiness of our village. As we look ahead, we have several projects planned and will be reaching out for their support throughout the winter months. Additionally, we’d like to recognize Niamh Coffey for her diligent work in compiling this year’s Tidy Towns application, and extend our appreciation to Denis Ryan, who regularly dedicates his time to litter picking along our roads. Together, we continue to foster a cleaner, greener New Inn.

SPOOKFEST 2024: A HOWLING SUCCESS!

The New Inn Festival Committee extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in organising the highly anticipated Spookfest 2024. A special recognition goes to those who crafted the creative Scarecrows, our Volunteers and to our generous Sponsors; your support made this event truly memorable.

The judging panel, featuring local favourites “The 2 Johnnies,” faced a challenging task due to the exceptional entries. After much deliberation, the winners have been announced:

1st Place: The McCoys with their entry “Hotdog Stand”

2nd Place: The Heaneys with “The Kissing Booth”

3rd Place: The Richardsons with “Tom and the Portal of Doom”

Schools Category: New Inn Boys School with “Security Hut”

The Halloween disco was a spooktacular success, attracting over 200 children dressed in their finest Halloween costumes. Attendees enjoyed spooky games and a variety of fun activities, with outdoor refreshments provided by The Bean Box.

As we prepare to take down the displays after this weekend, we encourage everyone to visit New Inn and soak up the spooky atmosphere while it lasts!

Prayers in New Inn Graveyard at 2pm and in Loughkent Graveyard at 3pm this Sunday November 3. Thanks to all who turned out for our annual membership evening on Wednesday last. Our producer for the coming year will be Karl McHugh. CAMOGIE NEWS

Rockwell Rovers Camogie Club held the finals of the U15 Klassy Lady, Cahir Competition in glorious sunshine on October 6th in New Inn. Thanks to Clonoulty/Rossmore, Ballybacon Grange and Fethard for attending.  The standard of camogie was very high on the day from all teams. Fethard won the Shield Final while hosts Rockwell Rovers were delighted to win the Cup Final after an epic battle with Ballybacon Grange.  Thanks to Sandra in Klassy Lady for sponsoring the competition and to all the parents for their support and generosity on the day.
