TOM O CONNOR

Rockwell Rovers GAA Club are very sad to hear of the passing of our good friend Tom O’ Connor, Douglas, Cork and formerly of New Inn.  Tom was the ultimate Clubman. He played for the club up to the mid-eighties and then he returned to train different teams even though he was living in Cork. He was an administrator in the club up to a few years ago. His joy when we won the Co Intermediate football championship and won the last two Cusack cups. His knowledge of the club was so informative, he committed so many hours to the club’s history and was so proud when the history book was launched. Tom’s dedication to the club was immense and his sad passing will be felt by all that knew him. The O’Connor family are synonymous with Rockwell Rovers and Tom was the very embodiment of that. While we as a club will miss him, his loss to his family will be massive.  On behalf of Rockwell Rovers GAA Club and the parish of New Inn & Knockgraffon, we offer our prayers and our sympathy to his wife Renee, sons Shane, Damian and Tómas and daughter Catherine, his brothers and sisters, neighbours and friends. May you rest in Peace Tom. Ar dheis de go raibh a anam dilis.

Well done to all involved in this fantastic fundraiser organised by Mattie & Elaine Cummins, Springfield for the Critical Emergency Medical Response (formerly Irish Community Air Ambulance).

A great crowd turned up to support the fundraiser in aid of Critical Emergency Medical Response (formerly Irish Community Air Ambulance) last Friday evening in Barrons pub, New Inn. Over 35 teams competed in the Table quiz and the overall winners were presented with their prizes (kindly sponsored by Flynn Accountant, Clonmel and Donnie Barrett, Barrett Haulage) by James Brown. A big thank you to MC on the night Karl McHugh, Mary Francis Barron for hosting the event, organisers Mattie & Elaine Cummins and to everyone who donated spot prizes for the raffle and helped out on the night. To continue this life-saving work, the Critical Emergency Medical Response relies on fundraising efforts. It costs an average of €25,000 to establish a Volunteer Doctor and €120,000 to equip a new Critical Care response vehicle. However, with your support, they can expand their service to reach more communities in Ireland. Well done to all involved.

CAMOGIE

Rockwell Rovers Junior Camogie team played their second league match on Friday, March 31, against a strong Slieve Felim side in New Inn. After a tough first game defeat, the girls put in a fantastic performance despite the poor weather conditions, which included a strong breeze and soft underfoot. Rockwell started strongly, with Clare O’Dwyer scoring two points. However, Slieve Felim quickly replied with three points of their own, leaving the half-time score 0-2 to 0-3 in their favour. In the second half, Rockwell’s Christine Bourke scored an early goal, but Slieve Felim responded with two more points to level the game. However, Rockwell showed great resilience and teamwork, and a lovely move resulted in a brilliant shot to the top corner from Bourke, scoring the second goal for Rockwell. The last 10 minutes of the game were intense as Slieve Felim tried to level the game, but Rockwell’s defence held strong, securing a historic victory for the club as this is the first time Rockwell Rovers Camogie have had a Junior team. Congratulations to the players and management for a fantastic performance and a memorable win.

COUNTY TIPPERARY CAMOGIE TEAMS

Well done to all the girls and we wish them well. They do themselves, their parish and club proud.
