EILEEN O’CONNOR
We lost our oldest parishioner during the week. Eileen O’Connor (nee Wall). Eileen lived in the heart of the village beside her good friend, Philly Fahey. Eileen was in her 100th year and would have celebrated her hundred birthday in April. She was married to the late Christy O’Connor of Boytonrath, New Inn and when Christy passed away some years ago, Eily moved to the village. She is survived by her three daughters and predeceased by her sons Brendan and John who passed away just before Christmas.
Our deepest condolences go out to her daughters Eileen, Deirdre and Marie, her extended family, and all those who knew and loved Eileen. Her spirit and vivacity were a beacon of light in our parish, and her absence will be deeply felt. Eileen was a great character in the village, and she always had a word for everyone.
Her love for card games was well-known, and she was a regular at the Knockgraffon cards every Wednesday evening (right up until Covid), where she was both a fierce competitor and a gracious player.
Eileen was a woman of immense strength and resilience. Her determination to live independently was a testament to her indomitable spirit.
In her 100 years, Eileen touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on our community. Her laughter, her stories, and her kindness will be remembered by all of us who had the privilege of knowing her.
We pray for Eileen and also pray for her family and friends, that they may find comfort and peace in their memories of Eileen.
Rest in peace, dear Eileen. You will always be remembered in our hearts and prayers.

These ladies were all over ninety years young at the time ! This is a very poignant photo as all three ladies have passed away since it was taken. Eileen was the last to go to her eternal rest.
