COUNTY COMMUNITY GAMES ATHLETIC FINALS

will be held in Templemore on 14th August, with this in mind we will need to select athletes to take part in this event from our area. Age Categories are U8, U10, U12, U14 & U16. Selection of Athletes to represent New Inn Knockgraffon area at these County Championships will take place in the GAA field in New Inn on Saturday 31 July at 4pm. The winner in each age category goes forward to represent the area in the County Finals. Athletes MUST be under the age specified by 31 July 2021 and MUST reside in the New Inn Knockgraffon area. Due to Covid regulations we need to know by latest Tuesday 27th July if anyone is interested in participating in this selection event on 31 July as Health Questionnaires etc will need to be prepared for each participant. What fabulous sunshine and fun was had in Dundrum House Golf club at our Golf classic last weekend. A big thank you to Jeff Leo, Michelle Crowe, Richard Nolan, Marion O’Riordan, all the Golf Team and staff at Dundrum House Hotel for their efficiency and having their golf course in “tipp top” shape. SINCEREST SYMPATHY

DR. SEÁN MCCARTHY.

“The Doc” was born in January 1937 in Lagganstown, New Inn and educated in Rockwell College and subsequently University College Dublin (MB, BCH, BAO, LM, DCH) and qualified as a medical doctor and physician. He married Mary Joe O’Keefe and had 3 sons and 2 daughters and settled down in John Street, Cashel. During his student days he became involved in the GAA and represented Tipperary in Minor Hurling and he played at club level for Rockwell Rovers, Golden-Kilfeacle and UCD. He was deeply passionate about helping people through his medical career and as a Finna Fail politician and represented the people of New Inn, Cashel and Tipperary with great passion and skill. Deepest condolences to all his family, his sons Eoin, Aidan and John and his daughters, Caitriona and Maria.

Rockwell Rovers GAA Club is holding their Golf Classic in Dundrum Golf Club, Co. Tipperary this Friday 16 July & Saturday 17 July. HAMPER 

Tickets will be on sale this week at the GAA field (from 7pm to 8pm, Mon – Thur) as part of our Golf Classic in aid of the new development. The prize is a hamper sponsored by Morrissey’s SuperValu, Cashel which is gratefully appreciated. Tickets are one for €2 or 3 for €5. The draw will take place Saturday 17 July at our Golf classic in Dundrum. Your support is much appreciated!

TODAY FM-SOUND TOWN COMPETITION

Today, Wednesday July 14, Today Fm are coming down to New Inn to film parts of the village for Ireland’s soundest town competition. New Inn is the month of June Cadbury sound town 2021 winner. Each month a different town will be picked and at the end of the year, an overall winner will be picked. This is a great opportunity to showcase our village and to impress the judges for the Final and have a chance of winning €10,000 for the community. We would ask that if there is anything you can do to make the village stand out, or if you see something that needs cleaning please help out with whatever you can and lets do ourselves proud. Is extended to Sr Assumpta, Convent of Mercy, Tipperary (former principal of Scoil Mhuire gan Smal, New Inn) and the Dunne family on the passing of her brother Dennis (Dinny) Dunne, Moyne, Thurles. May he rest in Peace.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the O’Donnell family, Donegal on the sad passing of Vincent O’Donnell. Deeply regretted by his loving partner Catherine, daughter Roseanna, brothers Paddy, Tom and Liam and sister Mary-Ann Bates.  Vincent was a larger-than-life character; he will be sadly missed. Ar dheis de go raibh an anam dilis.

CUL GAA CAMP 2021

Well done to all the children who attended the Kellogg’s Cul Camp from last Monday June 28 to Friday July 2. We had over 160 children – great numbers. Thanks to the parents who helped each day. A big thank you to the juvenile club with Elaine Cummins, Gerry & Anne Heenan, Anita O’Dwyer with help from Annette Carroll and the Camogie club and Martina Durkan and the Ladies football who ensured that everything ran smoothly. There are some lovely pictures up on our Rockwell Rovers GAA Facebook page. Thanks also to Kevin Halley our GDA and all the coaches for their help and support during the week. Finally, thanks to John Hally who had the pitch in perfect condition for the week. Also, we were blessed with lovely fine weather which made all the difference.

With Lockdown being lifted Rockwell Rovers GAA Club is now holding their postponed Golf Classic in Dundrum Golf Club, Co. Tipperary on Friday 16 July & Saturday 17 July. The cost is €120 for a team of 4 or €50 sponsorship of a tee box. Thanks to everyone who has already purchased a tee box or put in a team.
