New Inn Notes 01/05/2021

NEW INN FOOTPATH

At this month’s meeting of Tipp-Cahir -Cashel municipal council, councillor Andy Moloney has asked that the council investigate the possibility of a path between the Co-op and the village. This would remove the pinch point along the road that is part of a popular walking route around Loughkent and Newtown. It would also make it safer for cyclists using the road and people walking to and from the Co-op. The council agreed to look for funding under the active travel fund to help bring the proposal to fruition. This is a dangerous part of the road as it gets very tight and would further enhance the village which has improved immensely in recent years and complement the great work that the Tidy Towns group are doing.

LOTTO

NO WINNER (s) Lucky Dips x 4: Brigid Hayes (Golden) Catriona Ryan (Cashel), Gerard F Hawkins, Bobby Walsh to be entered into a monthly draw for €500 on Saturday June 5. Sellers: Rockwell Rovers X 2, PJ Moloney, Sandra English to be entered into a monthly draw for €100 on Saturday, June 5. This week’s Jackpot is €7,000. Congratulations to Anna Hayes, Feltham, England (sister of Mary O’Connor, Masterstown) who won €500 in our April monthly draw.

Gentle reminder: – Blue tickets are due for renewal. Thanks for your continued support.

PAT O’BRIEN

Congratulations to Pat O`Brien as he retires from Cahir Farmers Market after 18 years. Pat was the instigator of the market and was Chairman for many years. He is leaving a wonderful legacy for the town of Cahir, as the market goes from strength to strength. He will remain part of the organising committee and promises to pop in every week. The community of our little village of New Inn owes a great debt of gratitude to Pat, Barbara and all the O`Brien family, O’Brien Farm Shop, Outrath. He will continue to farm in his “retirement”. Thanks for everything Pat.

SUPPORT TOM FOR DARKNESS INTO LIGHT

The world has changed rapidly in the last 12 months. Plans have been made, only to be cancelled shortly afterwards. Businesses have adapted, parents have become substitute teachers, and hugs are on hold. More people than ever before are relying on the lifesaving services that Pieta provides free of charge, to those in suicidal distress, those who are self-harming and those who have been bereaved by suicide. But there is hope. You can help keep these essential services available to those who need them most, especially during these uncertain times, by helping local lad Tom Keating reach his fundraising goal. The gift you donate today could mean that one more call can be answered to someone in suicidal distress, one more person can get the help they need, when they need it, and one more family can be spared from the devastating heartbreak of suicide. Thank you so much for your support.

About the challenge ahead, this Saturday, May 8, Tom will run 42 kms, starting in early morning darkness in Knockgraffon, Cahir, into Cashel, around the Kings loop and returning home. Having completed a half marathon earlier this year in under 2 hours, he feels he is ready for the next step. And what better time to do it or cause to do it for. Please donate to the following link www.darknessintolightie/fundraisers/tomkeating.

Your support would be much appreciated!
