YOUNG SCIENTISTS

Well done to the 6th class students in Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál New Inn who have qualified for the young scientist competition to be held virtually in January. The project which is titled “Biodiversity in our Area” details how making small changes to a local environment can enhance and attract a wide range of animals to an environment. The girls have built a ‘Bug Hotel’ and a “Bee bomb” area. They are also using a butterfly hotel, bat box, nesting boxes and a bird feed platform to prove their hypothesis.

WOODENSTOWN & SURROUNDING AREAS

COMMUNITY ALERT INFO

We would like to give some helpful tips for dealing with the long and wintery nights: – keep fuel near the house with easy access. A bag of salt is very handy to keep footpaths and walkways ice free. Shoe grips are essential should the weather become icy. At this time of year many of us will be visiting relatives and friends so please ensure you secure all window and doors before you leave your home. Always leave a light on when you are away from your home. This is also a very important time when we should remember to check in on our neighbours and older people in the community, to make sure that are not alone and vulnerable at this time of year. Why not offer to get some fuel/food for your elderly neighbour when you are going shopping yourself or offer a lift to elderly neighbour? Remember to be vigilant regarding any suspicious vehicles or activity in your area. If you notice any strange vehicles take a note of the registration number and colour/type of the vehicle. Don’t’ approach these vehicles. Please contact Cahir Gardai on 052 7445630 or Cashel Gardai on 062 62866. With Covid 19 this year, now more than ever is to remind us all to look after people living alone who might be vulnerable. We would like to wish everyone a safe and Happy Christmas and a lovely New year.
